Company timeline

December, 1999 - Dave Miller files incorporation paperwork with New York State. Knowledge Athletes, Inc. is formed as a corporate entity.

February, 2000 - Trademark application filed with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office for the service mark, Knowledge Athletes.

February 2001 - Domain name, knowledgeathletes.com, registered with Network Solutions.

March, 2001 - Trademark application filed with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office for the service mark, Syndicated Professor.

July, 2003 - Trademark awarded by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the service mark, Knowledge Athletes®.

July, 2005 - Trademark awarded by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the service mark, Syndicated Professor®.

May, 2006 - Paper & pen, in-class pilots of Connections and Intersections™ literacy program conducted in two school districts in Monroe County, New York State.

September, 2006 - Knowledge Athletes, Inc. is introduced to schools as a web-based educational application company.

November, 2006 - Donna Thompson joins the Knowledge Athletes, Inc. team as Vice President of Business Development.

April, 2007 - First software prototype completed.

May 2007 - First online in-class pilots of Connections and Intersections™ literacy program conducted in two school districts in Monroe County, New York State.

September, 2007 - Sue SanFilippo joins the Knowledge Athletes advisory team.

October, 2007 - Judy Moulton joins the Knowledge Athletes advisory team.

October, 2007 - Knowledge Athletes is re-incorporated as a Delaware Corporation.

January, 2008 - Scott Sweeney joins the Knowledge Athletes advisory team.

March, 2008 - Trademark awarded by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the service mark, Grammaticon®.

April, 2008 - Kajour.com becomes the new face for the Knowledge Athletes® online extension to the classroom web-ware.

May, 2008 - Knowledge Athletes is awarded 2 U.S. Department of Education Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants; one with a focus on adolescent literacy achievement in the amount of $100,000 and the other, in the amount of $75,000 to level the playing field between hearing students and students with auditory and/or auditory processing challenges.

June, 2008 - Knowledge Athletes begins development of an expanded prototype to use in field testing for the two U.S. Department of Education SBIR grants.

September, 2008 - Literacy Engagement and Achievement Passport™ (LEAP) pilot, as funded by the U.S. Department of Education grant, begins with two 11th grade English Language Arts (ELA) classes.

September, 2008 - Website traffic on kajour tops 1.4 million hits per month.

November, 2008 - Knowledge Athletes Platform (KAP) pilot, as funded by the U.S. Department of Education grant, begins with a college level business ethics course that includes 6 deaf students and 12 hearing students.

January, 2009 - Knowledge Athletes submits Phase II SBIR application with the U.S. Department of Education for LEAP.

January, 2009 - Paul Root and John Giallanza join the Knowledge Athletes advisory team.

February, 2009 - Staci Autovino joins the Knowledge Athletes advisory team.

March, 2009 - Kajour™ is being used in prototype form in 7 school districts in and around Monroe County, New York State.

April, 2009 - AssetSeeker™ becomes part of the Knowledge Athletes family of knowledge-based products.

April, 2009 - Next version of the kajour™ user interface begins development.

Meet the team Minimize

Dave Miller has devoted a career to the worlds of information technology, information management, and knowledge and learning systems in both the business and education sectors. His book on these topics is entitled Data Communications and Networks and was published in 2005 by McGraw Hill. It is used in colleges around the globe. In addition to developing Knowledge Athletes, kajour, kallaborate, and AssetSeeker into business and education brand names, Dave is working on his Education Doctorate at the Warner School of Education at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. Dave is the founder, CEO, and president of Knowledge Athletes, Inc.

Dave's other interests include antique trucks, reading, and exploring the world of online social networking as it can be applied to business and education.

Donna Thompson is Vice President of Business Development for Knowledge Athletes. Donna leads the content sponsorship strategy, overall marketing and promotions, and acquisition and management of partner relationships.  Donna has over 30 years experience in education and business, first as a teacher and then as the Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Fusion Productions.  Donna built Fusion into a multi-million dollar company that is recognized as the leader in the Meetings and Conference industry. Accomplishments include: strategic collaboration with C-level business leaders; successfully leading Fusion into the world of digital meetings; producing the White House Conference on Travel and Tourism and facilitating the new government travel and tourism policy that resulted.

Donna's interests include world travel and discovering fabulous wines from around the globe.

Sue SanFilippo brings nearly 25 years of experience in instructional design, project management, content management, and operations management to the Knowledge Athletes mission. As an instructional designer, Sue has developed courses for traditional instructor-led training, e-learning, and blended learning across a variety of advanced network technology topics. As an instructor, she has also developed and taught asynchronous web-delivered courses. Sue is certified in Project Management and Network Administration. Sue joins the Knowledge Athletes team as an advisor in the areas of project management, instructional design, and web-based content management and delivery.

Judy Moulton, MSEd, has been Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and a sign language instructor for more than two decades in the Rochester, New York area. She has worked with all age groups from pre-school to adults and holds teaching certifications in deaf education, speech and hearing, and elementary education. Judy has taught sign language at Monroe Community College, the Greece Central School District, and Community Education classes. In 2005, she received the Robert F. Panara Lifetime Achievement Award from ESSP, a state-wide organization for professionals working with deaf and hard of hearing students. Judy joins the Knowledge Athletes team as an advisor in the areas of instructional design and planning and as liason to the deaf and hard of hearing communities.

Scott Sweeney started his career working in golf course marketing and management.  He was an active leader in the coordination and management of the 85th PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in 2003 and the 20th Annual Jim Kelly Celebrity Golf Tournament in 2006.  Scott also successfully led the creative design, construction, and opening of a multi-million dollar food and beverage center.
 
Scott earned his MBA in marketing and strategy at the University of Rochester's Simon School of Business in 2008. During his time in b-school, Scott consulted for several start-up firms spanning the software, education, wellness, consumer goods, and food and beverage industries.  He also championed the development of a business model for an early-intervention educational facility for children with autism and competed with this business concept on a national level, receiving first place honors twice.

Scott currently works in brand management at Unilever.  He has worked on both the Lipton and Popsicle brands during his tenure. His responsibilities have included competitive analysis, activation and promotion development, innovation launch management, and digital strategy creation. Scott joins the Knowledge Athletes team as an advisor in the areas of business strategy and use of social media in promotions.

Scott has visited 46 of the States, 5 Canadian provinces, and 15 countries in his personal travels to date.  He also enjoys sports, reading, and mentoring in brand management and entrepreneurship.

Paul Root has been an educator for eighteen years, teaching a wide range of students from middle school to university level. He spent ten years in urban education working for the Rochester City School District in Rochester, New York and the past eight working with students in a Monroe-2 BOCES college-career exploration program called New Visions at SUNY Brockport. Paul believes that the primary role of an educator is to develop a sense of belonging in students and that technology is a vital component in this development for 21st Century students. In addition to teaching, Paul is a national award-winning fiction, drama, and screenwriter; his work has been produced and distributed nationally and internationally. Paul joins the Knowledge Athletes team in an advisory capacity with a creative focus on 21st century content and curricular development and delivery through Web 2.0 technologies.

When he's not teaching or writing, Paul is usually pursuing one of his other passions: reading, film, sports, and music.


 
John Giallanza, has worked in media and marketing management for over 20 years. He has worked directly with companies such as Wegmans, McDonalds, Wendy’s, Pillsbury, Burger King, Friendly’s, GM, Nissan Dealers, Labatt, Budweiser, Coors, Molsen, local auto dealers, Concerts, and Events. He has Graphic Design as well as Film, Video, and Audio production expertise in creating high-end & high-quality layout, print, graphics, logos, TV & Radio commercials, and corporate Film and Video. John joins the Knowledge Athletes team in an advisory capacity with a focus on promotions and content sponsorship for the kajour website.

In addition to John's talent in the media and promotions field, he is also an accomplished musician, and enjoys playing in a band.


 
Staci Autovino-Kemp is a K-12 public education instructional leader with a broad knowledge set and experience in professional development, data integration for school improvement, integration of instructional technologies in the classroom, curricula and instructional design, and special and elementary education. Staci has been inspiring and empowering students with Web 2.0 technologies and 21st century learning modalities since their inception. Staci brings over 12 years educational experience in an advisory capacity to the Knowledge Athletes team in the areas of digital media delivery and integration, instructional design, and professional development.

Staci is currently working toward a doctorate in education and enjoys hiking, reading, and spending time with her two children.
